I test 11DPO and it was negative, but of course caved and checked it again about 12 hours later--faint positive. I took another test today (13DPO). Still negative, but here we are 12 hours later and this one doesn't even have an evap line. Both were the same brand, QuickVue, from the same box.
I'm sure it was just random, but I'm curious if that could also indicate a chemical pregnancy. Thank you for any feedback. If I haven't started bleeding by Friday I think I'll test again for some peace of mind.

But since my period returned after my second child, the Keeper's been annoying me immensely. I am definitely much more slack and open than I used to be; my period gushes in the first two days and the number of flow days is shorter now than in the past. I'm sure I need to be working on my pelvic tone, but I just won't be making that a priority for the moment. The Keeper slips down a lot (aggravating!), especially early in my cycle, or if it's full. If I've adjusted it a few times in a day, I give up and use tampons instead. And because I feel like it's stretching me out even further from the post-baby stretch, I end up curbing its use at the tail end and just using pantyliners once the flow slows. At the same time, my flow is so heavy in the beginning that I really need a cup to contain it.
So I'd like to get a different kind of cup. Ideally, I want to buy just one more cup and not think about it again. I guess I need something softer, shorter, squatter, fuller (apparently the latex Keeper is super stiff, and long and thin compared to other cups). I don't mind a learning curve for a new type of cup, but I do want something that will work with my untoned self. My original reason for getting the latex cup was that it's made out of a more natural material; even if I switch to silicone I'd prefer to avoid weird additives. Don't care about color. Will be trimming any stem. [EDIT: I will be cutting the stem off entirely, so it doesn't matter at all.]
I've seen a bunch of size charts, but they're exhausting to read, they vary slightly, they don't take into account the availability of a cup in my area, etc. I know some of you ladies are experts -- please advise!
I searched the archives here; this question
My guess from an hour of poking around various sites (which I'm already resenting, though answers to http://menstrual-cups.livejournal.com/3
Does that seem like a good plan? Is there a better one? It's just so damned expensive -- I don't want to make an obviously dumb decision.
Thanks a million!

I'm hoping for some advice.
Me and my boyfriend have decided to go off hormonal birth control for many reasons, the main being the side effects, we believe, outweigh the pros. I want something non-invasive.
I do not want to get an IUD, my bf does not do well with condoms, so the only options are barrier methods.
I have been researching these, and am thinking some kind of combination would be good: does anyone know how effective using spermicide WITH withdrawal is? Do you think it's a good idea? Does anyone else practice this?
Thanks in advance for any advice!

For someone who has such definite opinions about all sorts of things–politics, football, sensible shoes–I can be so indecisive in the kitchen that it’s a wonder my family doesn’t starve. I’ll often have an idea for a recipe brewing in my head for days before I actually go and cook it because I can’t quite decide on the seasoning. And sometimes, as with this broccoli soup, I simply don’t decide–I make two batches and my whole family does a taste test and is saved from starvation for a few days.

It's the holiday season, which can be a really difficult time for some people. Even if the holidays are joyful for you, it's often a very full and busy time, with a lot of expectations! We'd like to take a moment this week to ask: what are your favorite ways to take care of yourself during the holidays? They could be things that help you cope with the holidays as they come and go, things that help you unwind as you deal with stressful family get-togethers... or if you're someone who enjoys this time, they could just be festive things that make you happy. Or some mixture of the above. :)
Peace to all this holiday season!

I know I need to get another cup to use on my heavier days, but not sure which one I should get. One thing that worries me about possibly getting a larger size is the fact that I'm still a virgin and am worried about insertion and removal if I get a bigger cup size. But I am not fully worried since I've read other posts from people who also use the larger size cups and are also virgins. I love how soft and squishy the material is and don't want to get anything that is too much firmer than the sckoon cup. So I was wondering if I should just buy a sckoon large to use for the first few days of my cycle or if anyone can recommend a different brand to but that is just as soft, longer, and would have a larger capacity than the sckoon small. Also I'm gonna be in Germany until between July-August of 2014, so if their is a good European brand that is just as soft as a sckoon that might be easier to get than a sckoon I would appreciate the suggestion.

My simple gift wrapping this Christmas was done with my typical kraft paper wrapped with white bows and adorned with gold glitter salt dough stars.
I am lucky enough to have a ton of off cut fabrics from a bedding factory, so my ribbons and bows are ripped into strips using the offcuts, but you can certainly use old white sheets that are destined for the rag bin.
The simple salt dough recipe is:
1 cup of salt (get it at the dollar store, it's cheaper than the grocery store)
2 cups of flour
3/4 cup of water
You may have to adjust the water/flour by a bit, and I always add a bit of oil, about a tablespoon. This keeps the dough from sticking to your hands. Once you've rolled the dough and cut out your shapes, bake at 200 degrees for about an hour. You can also leave them to dry for a day or so.
I brushed my stars with Mod Podge and then sprinkled gold glitter all over.
I used a stamp set to mark the name of the recipient, and I'm going to see if I can stamp right onto bare dough ornaments because I think that would be a cute presentation too.

My pain at the moment came on completely unprovoked; I was sitting on the couch, readjusted my positioning and felt a knife like pain near my clitoris. It quickly developed into a cramping pain on the entire right side of the mons, akin to the feeling you get when you tear a muscle or trap a nerve in another body part.
I'm obviously expecting to have a pelvic exam, which although I am expecting to be very painful, I am prepared to have if it will help get to the bottom of this. I have done research on vulvodynia, pudendal nerve entrapment, yeast overgrowth, UTI's etc but I'm curious as to what will actually be investigated during my appointment as vulvar pain does not seem to be treated very seriously or thoroughly. I've been dismissed and mocked by doctors for years, as I'm aware other vulvar pain sufferers have been, so I am hoping I will be taken seriously and treated with respect during my consultation so I can finally move on with my life!
Thank you :)

<lj-cut text="Fruity-fruity Fruitcake">
The first recipe is for a traditional fruitcake--I found the recipe after scouring the internet years ago, after seeing the recipe made on a tv show. So it ain't mine, but it IS delicious, and I have converted quite a few fruitcake-haters with it!
1 c golden raisins
1c dried zante currants
1/2 c dried cherries
1/2 c dried apricots, diced
1/2 c dried figs, diced
1/4 c crystallized ginger, chopped
zest from 1 lemon and 1 orange
1 c alcohol (whatever you like - I like a mix of cognacs, Triple Sec, and vodka)
1 c sugar
1 c unsweetened apple juice
4 cloves, 6 allspice berries, finely ground
1 tsp each cinnamon and ground ginger
1 3/4 c flour
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp each baking powder and baking soda
1/2 c pecan pieces, toasted and chopped
Combine fruit, ginger, zests and alcohol--cover and let stand overnight to macerate. Put in a large saucepot, along w/ the sugar, butter, apple juice and spices, and bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring every now and them. Reduce heat and simmer until fruit has softened, 10-12 min. Remove from heat and let cool 15 minutes. Meanwhile, combine flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda and nuts. Beat in eggs well, then stir in cooled fruit mix, making sure to combine well. Divide among 2-greased and floured standard loaf pans, and bake at 325 60-70 min, or until done in the middle. Set out to cool, spritzing with more alcohol. Remove from pans when completely cool, and wrap tightly with plastic wrap. Every 2-3 days spritz all over with more alcohol. The longer you let it sit, the better the flavor gets--I let mine marinate at least a week before eating. :)
This second recipe I pretty much made up--it's good for kids, as it's no-bake, contains no alcohol, and they can help make it. My boss gave it his endorsement-- " They taste like Christmas!!"
Holiday Fruitcake Balls
1/4 c each dried cherries, golden raisins, dried cranberries, dried apricots and dried figs
1 T minced crystallized ginger
1/2 tsp fresh orange zest
1 c honey
1/3 c shredded coconut
1/2 c pecan pieces, toasted
2 heaping cups graham cracker crumbs
1 T cocoa powder
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp each ground ginger and ground allspice
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
1/2 c powdered sugar, plus more for rolling
Combine the fruits, ginger, zest and honey, and let sit overnight. Put in a saucepot and bring to a boil over medium-high heat-- reduce heat and simmer until fruit has softened, 10-15 minutes. Let cool 15 minutes. Meanwhile, put coconut and pecans in a food processor and process until finely ground. Put in a large bowl, along with the cooled fruit mix and remaining ingredients through the 1/2 c powdered sugar. Add enough oj to make a sticky but workable dough that stays together when squeezed. Put some extra powdered sugar in a bowl. Pinch off little pieces of dough and roll into 1/2" balls--roll in powdered sugar to coat. Keep in an airtight container dusted w/ more powdered sugar, as the balls will suck up their coatings as they start to dry out. Enjoy!

I have bought two topsy turvy cake pans and will make two different size sponges or I might make a large round cake topped with a smaller round cake. I can marzipan them and roll fondant icing over them, without it looking too shoddy but I'd like to try something decorative that is effective but easy. Cutting shapes from coloured sugar paste/icing is something I can do accurately.
And if that wasn't tough enough - my brief is that this person's favourite colours are blue and grey.

I'm 25, not a virgin (though I haven't been sexually active in three years), never given birth, with a narrow entrance to my vagina. If I reach in with my middle finger (which is 8.2 cm long), I still can't reach my cervix. If it matters, I'm tallish - 5'7" - and approx 125lbs.
I was looking at the LilyCup, but I can't get it in the US, from what the site tells me. :(

Also, do you have any advice on how to get the cup out without this liquid running out?

I was genuinely excited when I got my period to try this out feeling all self important and environmental and all in touch with my body... I followed the instructions on the Ruby Cup sheet and tried inserting using a c-fold. All my happy feelings went away as I could not get this thing in. I actually got a thumb cramp from holding the cup in a folded position for so long trying to get it in. Lucky my stubborness kicked in because come hell or high water I had paid enough for it and I was going to use this thing. I remembered reading about the punch down fold and although to me the size difference between this and the c fold didn't really look that different it was actually much easier to insert. I used to squat to get my tampons in but I found this really kinda clamped things down there and a kinda halfway between squatting and standing position with my legs wide apart was alot easier. Although I had done reading I was surprised at how much messing around I was doing down there but I can say I have learnt alot about my own body. Once it was in I tried to rotate it and to my surprise it did this really easily. I did have my doubts but I really didn't feel it once I had it in there. Now I was used to wearing pads with tampons (I always had leaks with tampons) so just out of habit I put an overnight pad on and went to sleep.
When I woke up the next morning I was shocked to see my pad was completely bone dry - like not a trace of blood. And then I realised I had actually slept through the night without waking up all crampy and feeling horrible which is usually what happens on the first day of my cycle. So far the cup was doing all the magical things the internet promised me it would!
And then I went to the bathroom and had the panic moment of I can't even feel the stem anymore - this cup has gone up to places I don't really go and its going to be stuck up there forever!! I was really surprised by how much higher up the cup had moved. I took a deep breath, remembered all the helpful stuff people had posted on here, and kept chanting to myself what goes up must come down. After some feeling around and 'bearing down' I got to the base of the cup and pinched it. Now here comes the part that might sound stupid but I struggled with it for ages as for some reason I just didn't have enough space or dexterity to pinch the bottom and pull down. The minute I stopped pinching I felt the cup kinda open up again and pulling on the stem just didn't do anything. And then I tried my left hand and it worked perfectly! I don't know what it was about changing hands but I would recommend it for newbies as it really did help even in subsequent removals - my right hand just cannot get the cup out. Also, for me, I can't get the seal to stay broken until I pull it down a little. This could be due to my technique, or the cup itself, I'm too much of a newbie to tell :) The first time I took the cup out even though it was folded (u shape) I had a moment of oww due to the diameter. Since then I have watched Melissa L.'s fantastic video and followed her way of getting one side out and then the other which is not only much less painful but actually does stop spillage (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qLPBZz3
About the cup itself - I find it super comfortable to use. I'm in my early twenties, no kids, not a virgin so I'm not sure if this makes a difference and the Ruby Cup only comes in one size. IMHO, it holds alot - I left it in 12 hours after that first time and still no leakage. To combat residual slobber I inserted in the shower. I would soap and rinse as usual, insert, and then just give the area another quick rinse. After that first day I didn't even wear a liner as I found I really didn't need to. It was fun not having to wear my old daggy period safe underwear for a week. Also I find it to be a good firmness/softness for me personally. It always pops open easily and I think if it was any firmer I would have trouble holding it closed while inserting. I was worried after ordering it that I hadn't taken note of my cervix position etc. before ordering and thought I'd end up buying another few cups before getting it right but the Ruby Cup was just perfect for me and I'm still kinda surprised at how well it works. If anyone has any questions about the cup I'd be happy to answer. I think it's a really good alternative to disposable products and I'm super happy with it. And thanks to all the amazing and knowledgeable women on here who helped to sell me on the idea of cups - I read so many posts where instead of being condescending people were so patient and helpful and all the posts here that I read were invaluable for me :)

I've been using a medium and a large Meluna classic for almost a year and love them. After stopping bc my cycle and body have drastically changed and I'm looking for another cup to add to my collection. Here's my conundrum: when my cervix is low my medium is too long(even without the stem), but my large fits fine. I know the medium is shorter so I'm assuming my cervix is actually sitting in the large. Here's the problem with my large: on heavy days when my cervix is low I'm more sensitive and it seems to cause some pain and cramping.
I'm looking for a cup that will be the right length, diameter, and comparable capacity, but soft enough to be comfortable the first few days. (And I'm just wanting a new cup too. They should come with warnings on how addictive they are.) I've looked at the size chart and I'm not sure which to go with, but I'm open to suggestions for anything.

I'm quite fat, so I've got several layers of natural insulation! I know that hot tubs aren't supposed to be good, but I haven't heard about cold cold water.

Hi all. I couldn't find anything that directly answered my question, so I hope this is ok!
I'm 21, have used Beyaz for several years. However, I recently stopped taking it because I was on antibiotics and getting a wisdom tooth removed, and heard taking oral contraceptives raises your chances of getting dry socket. I was done with my antibiotic course around the 3rd or 4th of December.
Saturday the 7th I had a little to drink and had unprotected sex, totally forgot about my lack of birth control at that moment. I took Next Choice within 24 hours and only experienced some dizziness. Today (6 days later) I am experiencing bright red bleeding, and it also comes with cramping and lower back pain, just like the first day of my "real" period would.
Is it possible this is my period, or just a withdrawal bleed from the Next Choice? Because I have no idea when my period "should" have been due to the birth control complications, I'm a little freaked out. I was planning on doing an at-home test 21 days from the day I took Next Choice, per the box advice, but any info I could get now would put me at ease.
